Christy graduated from the Mississippi University for Women cum laude in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science and a major in accounting. In August 2002, she received her certificate as a certified public accountant. Since that time she has been a member of the AICPA, Alabama Society of CPAs, and the Tuscaloosa Chapter of CPAs.
